Abstract

Comparison of Effectiveness of Lemongrass Oil and its Combination with Tea Tree Oil as Staphylococcus aureus Antibacterial in Class III Inpatient Room of Anwar Medika General Hospital Sidoarjo Susi Hartiningsih Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT Hospitals are the main thing that affects the health of patients and visitors because almost 90% of activities occur in the room, one of them is the Class III inpatient room. Microbial contamination is pathogenic is one of the causes of infectious diseases for humans, especially in hospitals. Lemongrass oil and tea tree oil are essential oils that are used as antimicrobials, especially in the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of lemongrass oil and its combination with tea tree oil as antibacterial Staphylococcus aureus in Class III inpatient rooms of Anwar Medika Hospital in Sidoarjo through air diffusion method with Essential Oil (EO) diffuser. The research method used by the RAL method using Microsoft Excel assistance, testing the data using t-Test: Paired Two Sample for Means. Antibacterial activity test using the air capture method and continued with the calculation of the number of colonies, Gram stain, catalase test, and coagulase test. The results obtained from the effectiveness test of a combination of lemongrass oil and tea tree oil showed control of 52,5 colonies while the 1st, 3rd, and 5th treatments were 32,48,20 colonies. The effectiveness test of lemongrass oil showed control of 10,5 colonies and the 1st treatment of 43,25 colonies. Based on these results it can be concluded that the effectiveness of lemongrass oil and its combination with tea tree oil has the ability to suppress the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
