Abstract

Antibacterial Potential of Nanoemulsion of Galangal Essential Oil (Alpinia galanga [L.] Willd.) In Fighting Escherichia coli Producing Extended Spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) Dita Nur Rochimah Email : [email protected] ABSTRACT Escherichia coli is a pathogenic that can be bacteria as a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study aims to determine the antibacterial potential of galangal essential oil nanoemulsion (Alpinia galanga [ L. ] Wi l l d. ) agai nst Escherichia coli producing Extended Spectrum β-Lactamases (ESBLs). The method used to determine the potential of antibacterial is MIC test using dilution method and MBC test using pour plate method. The sample used was Escherichia coli producing Extended Spectrum βLactamases (ESBLs) which is a collection of Labratorium Microbiology and Biotechnology STIKES of Anwar Medika Hospital. The design of the research used was a Completely Randomized Design Fact or ial wit h t wo factors and two repetitions. The series of nanoemulsion concentrations used was 22.5; 11.2; 5,6; 2,8; 1.4 and 0.7 mg/ml, negative control, and positive cont r ol . Based on the research that has been done it can be concluded that galangal oil nanoemulsion (Alpinia galanga (L.) Willd.) with a size of 14,95x10 3 nm can inhibit the growth of the best bacteria in isolates 1.1 at a concentration of 11.2 mg/ml with a inhibition percentage of 97%. Isolate 1.2 with a concentration of 11.2 mg/ml with an inhibitory percentage of 93%. Isolate 3.4 at a concentration of 11.2 mg/ml with an inhibitory percentage of 98%. Isolate 4.4 with a concentration of 5.6 mg/ml with an inhibitory percentage of 93% during an incubation time of 48 hours. Whereas the concentration tested has not been able to kill Escherichia coli producing ESBLs. Keywords : Escherichia coli bacteria, galangal oil, MIC and MBC
